Next Meeting: May 9th, 2016

The next Maui Camera Club meeting will be very busy, as we will have not one, but two guest speakers. Our two presenters, Douglas Hoffman and David Rivera will be covering the gamut of the world of professional photography, from owning and operating a brick and mortar camera store, to shooting landscapes, extreme sports, underwater, nature, and action sports photography.

Be sure to be on time for this meeting, because it will be busy from the beginning to the end.

Douglas Hoffman has been a working photographer on Maui since 1989. In that amount of time he has photographed over 1500 weddings and 500 families, and more than 10,000 hours in the water with a camera. Hoffman is well known for fine art photographs of Humpback whales and has received numerous awards. Douglas’ work is featured in several art galleries, and been the subject of three recent magazine and newspaper articles. In January of 2012, he received the prestigious Master of Photography Degree from the Professional Photographers of America. Douglas has been the Artist of Residence at Montage Kapalua Bay for last 18 months and is opening Kohala gallery and Gifts in May of 2016, in Honokowai. Some of Doug’s other highlights include: past president and vice president of Maui Professional Photographers, 11 years (and counting) of leading whale photography adventures in Tonga, starting Maui Photo Tours and Workshops, and obtaining a PPA Master Photography Degree.

David Rivera is the CEO of George’s Camera. David has worked in the photo industry since 1985. He received a BA from National University in 1992 in Business Administration. He has been on advisory boards for Adobe, Canon, Nikon and Sony. David is a technical advisor to the American Orthodontics Board as an expert in digital photography and has worked on several legal cases for the FBI and US Customs. David currently sits on the Photographic Research Organizations board and is President and owner of George’s Camera in San Diego. David and his wife were Mauied 20 years ago in Makena. Maui is a special place for the Rivera family and they visit their properties in Kihei often. David now is focusing on landscape and underwater photography here in Maui and looks forward to retiring with his wife in Maui. As soon as his two daughters graduate college! Hobbies are an endless list that include road racing motorcycles (mostly retired), skiing, surfing, scuba diving, flying planes and shooting pictures.
