Aloha!
Happy April Greetings!
Spring is in the air and flowers are blooming everywhere. Hopefully "shutter bugs" are keeping busy, too! We have been more than blessed with bountiful rain this past month bringing us spring flowers blooming everywhere. Take the time to smell the flowers, or better yet, take pictures of the flowers. Get out of the house and explore the wonderful landscapes of Maui!
Our last club meeting brought forth pictures of interesting and sometimes clever signs and typography on Maui. From the town of Makawao to the neon-lit sign of Da Babooz Bar in Wailuku, our camera club members confessed they were in bushes or perched in front of a graffiti wall waiting for an interesting person to walk by to get the shot. Thank goodness no one got arrested this month.

Alright everyone, for next month we’re going to slow things down a bit and really focus on the heart of photography—light, shadow, and emotion. Our assignment is Black and White Portraits. Portrait photography is about more than just what someone looks like—it’s about capturing their personality, their mood, and their story in a single image. And when you remove color, everything else becomes more important—expression, texture, and especially light.
