Portfolio of the Month

Carl Yoshihara

100-400 mm Telephoto Lens

First time I went to Hosmer Grove in Haleakala for birds, I just got trees and stuff. My zoom wasn't adequate.

Once I got the 100-400mm, I got good with the birds and whales. Then I occasionally used it for other things. I realized it was a great lens! Since 2025 New Year, I've been using it quite a bit more. It opened up another different way to think, see and photograph.

Bio

Currently I'm the board president of the Maui Camera Club. I'm also on the board for ArtMaui.org

I've been an artist for 50+ years and have been taking photos just as long. I see myself as an artist with a camera. I love art and take photos of everything!

Before moving back to Maui, I lived in Silicon Valley, California. Where I was graphic designer, art director, web developer. I worked for everyone, including many 500 and 1000 Fortune companies.

Fun fact: I worked/played on and beta tested the pre-released first version of Photoshop and helped develop the User Guide at Adobe Systems. Been using Adobe Illustrator and Lightroom forever too.
